Sainsbury’s brightens up Bushell’s

This photo, taken shortly before Gwen started her fortnightly quiz session, shows some of the lovely flowers kindly donated by Sainsbury’s in Longridge.  The store gave Bushell House several arrangements of beautiful pinks, chrysanthemums and roses for the residents and staff to enjoy around the house.  We are very grateful to them for their generosity.

17th January 2012 – St Petersburg and Moscow

Steuart Kellington was kind enough to come to Bushell House on Tuesday with his wife to talk us through their marvellous selection of slides taken while on holiday in Moscow and St Petersburg.  We were transported from a grey wet Lancashire day to the gilded churches and palaces of Russia with sun shining on the gold leafed domes.  We all enjoyed the splendour on the screen and hope that the Kellingtons will visit again soon.

21st December 2011 – Bushell House Christmas Party

At 3.00pm The Land Girls arrived to entertain residents, their families and friends at our Christmas Party.  The Land Girls are a marvellous troupe of volunteers who sing and perform simple dance routines to wartime favourites and raise money for the Sue Ryder Charity by doing so.  All those at the party were given Union Jacks to wave and everybody joined in with the familiar songs. Afterwards, the Chairman of the Trustees, Mr Andrew Penney said a few words and then the manager Mrs Susan Jones called the raffle.  There were many lovely prizes which had been kindly donated as had  the ‘Guess the number of Sweets’ in a jar donated by ‘Sweet Traditions’ which was won by Mrs Liz Pattinson.  The money from the raffle and sweets went to the Residents Amenities Fund. Finally we enjoyed a glass of wine with the delicious buffet put on by the cook at Bushell House.  It was a very happy occasion.

20th December – Christmas Sing-Song

Gerald and Michael came with keyboard and guitar to lead our Christmas Carol SingSong in the Library.  We sang carols chosen by us all, Michael sang a solo for us and Mr Finch entertained us all by reciting ‘The Lion and Albert’ as made famous by Stanley Holloway. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

19th December – Trinity Church Goosnargh to sing

The singers from Trinity Methodist Church in Goosnargh came this evening to hold their usual Carol concert in Bushell House.  It is a very popular event and we are grateful to them for coming to sing to us.  It was a very good performance which we all enjoyed.

15th December – Goosnargh Carollers

The Goosnargh Carollers called in during the afternoon to raise funds for Vine House Hospice.  We wish them well in fund raising for such a good cause.

14th December 2011 – Christmas Floral Arrangements

Fliss Pemberton from Bushell House League of Friends and Chairman of the Goosnargh St Mary’s Flower CLub very kindly came and demonstrated the art of making table arrangements for Christmas.  The residents were able to try their hand and between them several arrangements were made for the tables in the dining room.  The arrangements had a festive mixture of fir, spruce, ivy and red and green flowers.  Red candles and silver and gold baubles finished the effect off beautifully. The results were extremely professional and lovely to look at.

12th December – Music for Winter

Barton WI Choir came to sing in the Library.  They performed the most lovely variety of music for winter, some Christmassy and some just suitable for listening to on a dark afternoon.  We joined in with some of the well known songs and thoroughly enjoyed their very talented performance.  We look forward to them coming to Bushell House again.
